Middle East & North Africa Stroke Organization (MENA Stroke) is a region wide non-profitable organisation is committed with a vision to reduce overall stroke burden in the MENA region. The organization was founded in 2017 with the aim to facilitate communication and creates synergies among clinicians and scientists to promote and enhance research and improve clinical outcomes in Stroke.
The MENA Stroke Vision will have the following short term and long term goals:
i. Improving awareness of stroke and its risk factors amongst general population and health care providers
ii. Training and education of stroke care providers according to evidence based international guidelines
MENA patients are slightly younger, have a higher prevalence of diabetes and slightly more severe ischemic strokes, commonly of atherosclerotic or microvascular etiology.
There are over 12.2 million new strokes each year. Globally, one in four people over age 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime.
